“I don’t put much pressure on the deer; I only call to bucks that I have seen, that I am interested in bringing within bow range, and that I think are shooters. I grunt, and then I raise the volume of my grunts until the buck stops and looks. As soon as he stops and looks, then I know he has heard it. Then I will be quiet. If he starts going again, I may call to him again – I may snort wheeze at that point, but I usually don’t do a lot of calling. I want to pique his curiosity and make him commit to coming in.”
