Destination Dive Returns for Season 5 on Waypoint TV, Taking Viewers Beneath the Surface of the Florida Keys
Award-Winning Journalist Kerry Sanders Joins the Series as Host for a New Season Exploring Underwater Adventure, Marine Conservation, Science and the Stories Behind the Dive
August 27, 2026 — Waypoint TV, the destination for outdoor entertainment, is proud to announce the arrival of Season 5 of Destination Dive, the fast-paced series that takes viewers beneath the surface to explore the world's oceans through recreational scuba diving. The new season brings a fresh perspective to the series with award-winning journalist Kerry Sanders joining as host, guiding viewers through the remarkable waters, people and stories of the Florida Keys.
Season 5 premiered August 25, taking viewers from the reefs and wrecks of Key Largo and Islamorada to the waters of Marathon, the Lower Keys and Key West. The season combines unforgettable underwater adventures with stories of marine conservation, scientific discovery, history and the people working to understand and protect the ocean.
For Sanders, who spent more than three decades reporting for NBC News and the TODAY show, the transition from covering stories above the surface to telling stories beneath it is a natural extension of his lifelong passion for the environment. Sanders has reported extensively on environmental issues, including shark research, coral restoration and underwater discoveries, making Destination Dive a natural fit for his storytelling style.
“After more than 40 years of journalism, I’ve learned that the best stories are always about people,” said Kerry Sanders, Host of Destination Dive. “Destination Dive gives us the opportunity to meet people doing remarkable things beneath the surface; scientists, divers, conservationists and explorers, while taking viewers to places most people will never get to experience firsthand. There is so much more to the ocean than what we see from the surface.”
A New Perspective Beneath the Surface
Destination Dive has built its identity around showcasing the beauty and adventure of the underwater world while shining a light on the work being done to protect it. Season 5 continues that mission while expanding the series' storytelling approach, connecting the excitement of each dive with the science, history and conservation stories found below the surface.
This season takes viewers into some of the Florida Keys' most iconic waters, including encounters with shipwrecks, coral reefs, sharks, mangroves and marine ecosystems that make the Keys one of the world's premier diving destinations.
Among the stories featured throughout the season are efforts to restore coral reefs, the role of sharks in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems, the mapping and exploration of historic shipwrecks, and new technology being used to better understand marine life.
The season also explores the history hidden beneath the waters of the Keys, reminding viewers that every dive can reveal more than marine life, it can uncover stories of the people, places and events that shaped the region.
“Destination Dive has always been about more than just beautiful underwater footage,” said Mike Zimmer, Executive Producer of Destination Dive. “We want viewers to experience the adventure, but we also want them to understand what they're seeing and meet the people who are making a difference. Bringing Kerry into the series takes that storytelling to another level. His experience, curiosity and passion for the environment make him the perfect person to help tell these stories.”
