Celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Day would not be complete without being outdoors and taking part in your favorite outdoor activity, whether that’s hunting, fishing, shooting, or anything else. The Waypoint TV team is made up of hardworking professionals but also passionate outdoorsmen and women. They will be celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Day all over the country. From fly fishing in the back country of Colorado, to teal and dove hunting with family in Texas, to fishing and snorkeling, and enjoying the day out on Narragansett Bay.

Think back to when you first discovered your passion for the outdoors, “growing up on the eastern shore, I was blessed to be able to experience the beauty of the barrier islands and the many ducks and geese that pass through that area every year. It ignited a fire inside of me, a passion for hunting and the outdoors that is still burning strong today” said Social Media Coordinator, Jack Orloff.  This day is an opportunity to share your passion with someone who has not yet experienced hunting, fishing, or anything outdoors. “Teaching my daughters to shoot and hunt upland birds over our Labrador Retrievers will always be special along with the excitement of teaching my grandchildren to fish” said Waypoint TV President, Todd Hansen.

“The more time spent on the water, the more you feel a part of the ecosystem, unplugging from the daily distraction and feeling your way through the adventure. It’s hard to beat a day on the bay, listening to the water slap against the hull, feeling the boat pitch and yaw, and hearing the terns squawk in the distance” said Zach Rollins, Waypoint TV Business Development.

National Hunting and Fishing Day is a great time to remember when you were first introduced to your passion in the outdoors, “I was introduced to hunting in college by my boyfriend, now husband. What started as learning basic gun safety and figuring out my draw length for a bow has turned into a passion for and obsession with deer, duck, dove, predator, and turkey hunting, land management, the effects of conservation, and a career in the outdoor industry” said Waypoint TV Director of Marketing, Stevie Barefield.

Here are some of the Waypoint Teams favorite memories from the outdoors.

“While archery hunting for turkeys in South Carolina, I shot a turkey right on the edge of a tidal creek of brackish water, and it fell into the water. When I got out of my blind to go get it, there was an 8 foot long alligator eating it. The next day I contacted DNR, got a tag for the turkey and got the alligator the following week!” Cameron Mirabedini, Waypoint TV Business Development Executive.

“After iCast last year I got to go out with Jonathan Moss from The Captain’s Log. We spent the day out on some beautiful chain lakes catching bass and enjoying the scenery. It was the best time I have ever had fishing.” Ryan Hamilton, Marketing Coordinator.

“Last year for thanksgiving, my family flew out to Norther California to stay in a cabin on Lake Almanor. I took a day trip to fish the Sacramento River for King Salmon and brought home a fresh caught king salmon and we cooked it for dinner. It was the best fish I have ever had.” Kaitlyn Conti, Partner Marketing Coordinator.

“My favorite memory is squirrel hunting as a child with my uncle and father using a Steven’s single shot 410.” Graig Hale, Director of Business Development.

About National Hunting and Fishing Day

National Hunting and Fishing Day was created by NSSF to celebrate the conservation successes of hunters, target shooters and anglers. NSSF is the trade association for the firearm industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a membership of thousands of manufacturers, distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen’s organizations and publishers nationwide.

NHF Day was launched by Congress in 1971 to recognize hunters and anglers for their leadership in wildlife and conservation.

Those interested in learning about hunting can take an online or in-person hunter education course.  This mandatory education course is required for all new hunters and equips them with the necessary tools and information they need to be safe in the field. The course covers a range of topics including the basics about firearm safety, species identification, zones of fire and more. Hunter education certification is required for anyone born on or after Sept. 2, 1971.
